Where could someone go to get help with makeup?

besides a department store. Are there places you can go to get tips on how to apply it that will not push their products down your throat? Just an aging tomboy here who could use a few pointers :)

Thanks in advance !Where could someone go to get help with makeup?
A GREAT book Confessions of A Beauty Editor by Linda Wells - it breaks down the how to's, what works (sunscreen) what doesn't (like lip plumpers) and the best products etc. I'm a decidedly UN-girly girl but I want to look nice with as little make up as possible. The ';how to apply mascara'; tips alone were worth the price of the book. Good luck.Where could someone go to get help with makeup?
Go to ulta Cosmetics if there's one near you. They don't push you into making purchases and will even make up your face for free!
Virtual Makeover. You can play with colors and find a look you will love. Then it shows you how to apply your new look. Just click http://marykay.com/mgunther2
If u don't want to speak face-to-face with a make-up artist/salesperson, you can get great advice online on www.maccosmetics.com. U can go into a live chatroom with a make-up artist where they will recommend ideal shades, colours, etc. to suit u. They will also advise on how to apply your make-up step by step. Its really good and there is no obligation to buy anything. Just great advise.
Even if you go to a Spa they will push their product. The point is, you can get advice, but you don't have to buy!!!!
there are places in the mall that do makeovers and they instruct you on how to do wht they are doing on you. they tell you what products they are using and you can purchase them right there
Get a book by Kevin Aucoin called ';Making Faces';. He was a famous make-up artist who unfortunately passed away but the book is awesome. Step by step instructions for many different looks....from simple to dramatic!
Find your local Mary Kay lady at marykay.com...just went over to mine last night and she gave me a make over by helping me apply the make up myself and I didn't buy anything
not all department store peoples force u to buy sumthng :( i dont. i give lots of samples :)
Yeah there is a really good site...hold on...

If you have any girl friends that are good with makeup, then that would be good, but otherwise, I would suggest MAC. Every time I have gone there, they aren't trying to push me to buy anything, and they are great with colors and styles for your skin tone.
I really like Kevin Aucoin's books, particularly ';The Art of Makeup.'; It start with the basics (how to appy foundation, etc.) and then moves on to more specific techniques.

Also, the answerer who said Sephora is correct! I could spend hours in Sephora just looking around. You can sample their products, too. Just be wary of the prices -- Sephora is more high-end than some shops. One way to get the colors you want without spending the money is to take a white card into the store and when you find a product you like, swipe a bit on the card. Then you can take the card to your local drug store or Target and find a similar color for less $$$.
well u could experament urself or go to a beautition and you can make an appointment 4 a make up lesson and day will tell u how to cleanse ect. proper too.
Sephora 100% you can walk out without buying anything. and they dont use just one brand, they use various and give you tips
I'm not a big fan of getting makeup tips from major department stores either. They're always pressing on purchasing some product or another. I would recommend getting with some of your girl friends and getting makeup tips from them. It's a lot cheaper, and you can have some fun in the learning process.
maybe a beauty salon???? cuz all i can think of is a departmaent store... or you can ask your mom or your sister or your cuzzin or your aunt or some one in your family that wears makeup.
